The New York Times reports that a growing body of research has begun to confirm that Americans, and women in particular, are drinking more alcohol in response to the COVID-19.
A survey conducted in May 2020 by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County found that 60 percent of the 800+ respondents — the majority of whom were white women — were drinking more compared with before Covid-19 (13 percent were drinking less).
Another survey by the American Psychological Association conducted in February 2021 found that nearly one in four adults reported drinking more to manage pandemic stress.
