‘It’s a no-brainer’: Rising adolescent overdoses prompt calls for school to stock naloxone

Eastern Kentucky impacted by increase in drug overdoses
Health officials continue to be concerned by increases in illegal substances laced with fentanyl, including a new drug that’s already led to multiple overdoses in Eastern Kentucky. Dalton’s Law to tighten sentences of fentanyl traffickers
In Kentucky, Fentanyl is largely responsible for the increase in drug overdoses last year. Perry County Rep. Chris Fugate says this opioid is too dangerous to not crack down on the dealers. Read more here.
Black Americans are now dying from drug overdoses at a higher rate than whites
While the first wave of the opioid epidemic disproportionately impacted white Americans, Black Americans are now facing higher rates of overdose fatalities. In 2021, fatal overdoses across the U.S. surpassed 100,000 for the first time, with death rates rising the most among Black Americans. Read more here.
State and federal leaders address growing addiction crisis in Kentucky
